Penny’s parents are John Mordaunt and Jennifer. She was born to John Mordaunt, a former paratrooper, and Jennifer, a special education teacher. Her father served in the Parachute Regiment, or Paras, before becoming a teacher and eventually a youth worker for Hampshire Council. In contrast, her mother was a special needs teacher at several Purbrooks schools. Mordaunt has two brothers: James (twin), and Edward.
At the age of fifteen, Mordaunt lost her mother to breast cancer. Her father too experienced a difficult recovery following a cancer diagnosis.
